Teach One

Teach One ~ Teach One Child & Teach One Teacher at a Time
Such Beautiful Faces!!!

Imagine being hungry, hopeless, and destitute.  This is the life of so many children and families in Zambia.  What would you do to change your situation and make a difference in your life and your future children’s lives?  Having dreams of eating every day and having the necessities of life are the hopes of many children.    The gift of an education can help change your future, but what if you are in seventh grade and you still can’t read?  When I was in Zambia last summer, my heart became greatly burdened to help teach these children how to read.  As a 12 year old boy came in to read me a beginning Kindergarten reader, he started by trying to read the copyright page.  It was all I could do not to burst out into tears.  The reality that these kids have not had the opportunity to have books placed into their hands was so hard to comprehend.

Last summer, I was only in a school for two weeks and you can’t teach a child how to read in that short amount of time, but through mentoring the teachers and empowering them with the tools to teach their children how to read will make a difference.  I was so excited to see the difference in the teacher I worked with last summer by the end of the two weeks that I was there.   My heart was so heavy for the education that these children need and deserve so that they can change their future by being educated.  Only through the opportunity education will bring about will they be able to get a job.  My favorite story that I heard last year was from Dalitso.  He said, “When I grow up, I want to be a pastor so that I can help kids like me.”  God gives each of us different desires and passions and one of the passions that He has given me is to help make a difference in the lives of children like Dalitso.  There is nothing more heartbreaking to me than seeing a child want to learn and they don’t have the tools to do it.

Dalitso and I!  I love this little boy!!!

God has brought about an amazing opportunity for me to go back to Zambia this summer for 6 weeks and help lead the teacher trips.  I will be working with some amazing ladies who work for Family Legacy and I am so excited to see what God has in store this summer.   I will be leaving in mid-June, and will return at the beginning of August.

My prayer is that as God is laying it on the hearts of American teachers to go to Zambia, we would all be able to come together and begin changing the education of these beautiful orphans and vulnerable children.  There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about these boys and girls.  I know that every time I go to Zambia, God changes my heart and makes me fall in love with the people of Zambia even more.

I would love for you to partner with me in prayer as I am preparing to go back to Zambia and if you feel led, I would love for you to partner with me financially.  Your donations are tax deductible.  I need to raise $5200 for my trip by the end of March.  Last year I was blown away by the way God provided the funds for my trip and I am already praying expectantly that He will do it again.
